In this talk, I will attempt to give an overview over the state of affairs of analog quantum simulators, so large-scale quantum systems allowing to probe physical quantities with high levels of control. Following a brief overview over common architectures, we will move on to discuss questions that such analog quantum simulators can address. At the heart of the talk will be conceptual questions on the sense in which one can hope for achieving a quantum advantage with analog quantum simulators. It will end with an outlook of open questions in the field, stressing the significance of notions of verification and robustness.
