Directions from downtown Berkeley
The walk from downtown Berkeley to the Simons Institute in Calvin Lab is a pleasant 15-minute stroll (0.8 mi) through campus. If you prefer to take the campus shuttle, the Perimeter Line stops in downtown Berkeley and at the Haas School of Business, just east of Calvin Lab. The cost is $1. Directions to Berkeley via Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
BART from San Francisco International Airport: Take the complimentary AirTrain (red line) from your arrival terminal to the SFO BART station. At the BART station, purchase a ticket* to Downtown Berkeley (~$10.70). You can either board:
- Richmond bound train (Red Line) to Downtown Berkeley. No transfer is required. Travel time: ~63 minutes
- Antioch, Pittsburg/ Bay Point, or Concord bound train (Yellow Line). When the train arrives at the 19th St. Oakland station, transfer to the Richmond bound train (Orange Line), which should be waiting on the opposite side of the platform (timed transfer). Take the Richmond train to Downtown Berkeley. Travel time: ~55 minutes.
BART from Oakland International Airport: Take the Oakland Airport Connector to the Oakland Coliseum BART station. At the end of the connector station, purchase a ticket* to Downtown Berkeley (~$9.60, including the cost of the connector). Take the stairs down to the BART platform and board a Richmond train (orange line), which will take you directly to the Downtown Berkeley station. Travel time: ~36 minutes.

Parking
Metered parking is available at Maxwell Garage at Gayley Road & Stadium Rim Way as well as at the Underhill Structure, a campus-operated lot located on Channing Way between College Ave. and Bowditch St. (further information at http://pt.berkeley.edu/parking/visitor-parking). Additional parking can be found at the City of Berkeley Telegraph Channing Garage, located at 2450 Durant Ave., between Dana St. and Telegraph Ave. A small number of 8-hour metered street-parking spaces are located at the intersection of College and Channing; these tend to fill up early in the day.
Directions by car
expandFrom San Francisco, the San Francisco airport, and points south on northbound Highway 101
- Follow U.S. 101 north and then switch to I-80 east, and take it across the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge.
- Stay left as you get off the Bay Bridge and take I-80 east heading to Berkeley & Sacramento.
- Exit I-80 at University Ave. (exit 11). Stay left at the split on the off-ramp toward UC Berkeley.
- Continue east on University Ave. for approximately 2 miles (3.5 kilometers) to Oxford St. at the western edge of the campus.
- Turn left on to Oxford St. and continue two blocks to Hearst Ave.
- Turn right on to Hearst Ave. and continue until you reach Gayley Rd.
- Turn right on to Gayley Rd. and continue on Gayley Rd. (which turns into Piedmont Ave.) for approximately 0.4 miles (0.6 kilometers).
- Turn right on to Optometry Ln. (after passing the Haas School of Business on your right).
- Calvin Lab will be the round building on your left. Please note that parking in the Boalt Lot is restricted Monday–Friday from 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Refer to the UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation website for rules and regulations. The closest public parking is the City of Berkeley Telegraph Channing Garage, located at 2450 Durant Ave., between Dana St. and Telegraph Ave.
expandFrom Oakland, the Oakland airport, Hayward or San Jose on northbound I-880
- Stay in left center lanes on I-880 N when you reach downtown Oakland.
- Exit I-80 east (to Berkeley).
- Exit I-80 at University Ave. (exit 11). Stay left at the split on the off-ramp toward UC Berkeley.
- Continue east on University Ave. for approximately 2 miles (3.5 kilometers) to Oxford St. at the western edge of the campus.
- Turn left on to Oxford St. and continue two blocks to Hearst Ave.
- Turn right on to Hearst Ave. and continue until you reach Gayley Rd.
- Turn right on to Gayley Rd. and continue on Gayley Rd. (which turns into Piedmont Ave.) for approximately 0.4 miles (0.6 kilometers).

- Highway 13 N ends and becomes Tunnel Rd.
- Continue on Tunnel Rd. Tunnel Rd becomes Ashby Ave. near the Claremont Hotel. Continue on Ashby Ave. for approximately 1 mile (1.6 kilometers).
- Turn right at Telegraph Ave. and continue until you reach Channing Way approximately 0.7 miles (1.1 kilometers).
- Turn right on to Channing Way and continue on until you reach the traffic circle at Piedmont Ave.
- Follow the traffic circle counter-clockwise to turn left onto Piedmont Ave. Continue on Piedmont Ave. past Bancroft Way.
- At the next stop sign, make a U-turn. (California Memorial Stadium will be on your right; the Haas School of Business will be on your left.)
- Turn right on to Optometry Ln. (after passing the Haas School of Business on your right).
