Norbert Schuch's research interests are at the interface between quantum information theory and quantum many-body physics. On the one hand, he applies concepts from quantum information, and in particular entanglement theory, to study the physics of quantum many-body systems, both analytically and numerically. On the other hand, he studies the impact of quantum many-body phenomena on questions in quantum computation and quantum complexity theory. 

Schuch carried out his doctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and the Technical University of Munich, followed by postdocs at Max Planck and at Caltech. He has been professor of theoretical physics in the department of mathematics, computer science and natural sciences at RWTH Aachen since March 2012.
