New Tricks for Old Codes

Organizers:

Swastik Kopparty (University of Toronto; chair), Sivakanth Gopi (Microsoft Research), Mary Wootters (Stanford University)

Much exciting recent progress has come from new analysis of classical constructions, either spurred by new mathematical breakthroughs or else by new applications. Notable examples include recent results about  eps-biased codes, the performance of Reed-Muller (RM) codes on the BSC; new applications of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes in distributed storage and distributed computation; and new results on the combinatorial properties (including list-decodability) of both RS and RM codes and their variants. This workshop will bring together researchers working on these classical codes to share new applications and techniques.

Registration is required to attend this workshop. Space may be limited, and you are advised to register early. The link to the registration form will appear on this page approximately 10 weeks before the workshop. To submit your name for consideration, please register and await confirmation of your acceptance before booking your travel.

Further details about this workshop will be posted in due course. To contact the organizers about this workshop, please complete this form.

Please note: the Simons Institute regularly captures photos and video of activity around the Institute for use in videos, publications, and promotional materials.
