In part I of this lecture, we motivate the historic transformation of our power systems in the coming decades, with its opportunities and challenges.  We introduce basic concepts in alternating current (ac) power systems, including phasor representation, balanced three-phase systems, per-phase analysis, and complex power.  We present simple models of transmission lines, transformers, and generators.

The first session of this mini course will take place on Thursday, January 25 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; the second session of this mini course will take place on Thursday, January 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
