Sarah Cannon is a NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. She recently completed her PhD in Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization at Georgia Tech, where she was a NSF Graduate Research Fellow, a Clare Boothe Luce Outstanding Graduate Fellow, and the recipient of a Simons Award for Graduate Students in Theoretical Computer Science. Previously, Sarah earned a MSc in Mathematics and the Foundations of Computer Science from the University of Oxford in 2013, and a BA in Mathematics, with a minor in Computer Science, from Tufts University in 2012. Her research focuses on mathematical foundations of Markov chains for problems from discrete geometry, including applications to distributed algorithms, programmable matter, and statistical physics.
