Jose Israel Rodriguez is an NSF postdoctoral fellow and received his PhD in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley under Bernd Sturmfels. His primary interest is algebraic statistics, numerical algebraic geometry, and non-linear algebra. His work includes applying numerical algorithms from non-linear algebra to the maximum likelihood estimation problem.
