Problem Solving Day #1
Calvin Lab auditorium
The purpose of this event is for participants to work together intensively in a group on a specific problem for one or two days.
(1) We will begin with short 10min talks in the morning by volunteers each explaining a specific open problem to work on. The problem should be concrete enough that someone in the program can conceivably start thinking about it immediately.
(2) After this, we will vote to choose the four most interesting problems, and then break into four smaller groups based on interest. Each group which will be assigned a room/collaboration space for the rest of the day, and the idea is to actually commit to thinking about the problem together for the whole day.
The main point of this experience is to see how people outside your immediate research community think, and possibly collaborate with them, so don't be afraid to choose a less familiar problem from the options!
