Title: Social Impacts of Collective Decision-Making Systems
Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss research on social impacts of collective-decision-making systems – i.e., systems whose decisions are affected by, and will affect, an entire populace. We will cover this topic at many levels of abstraction through the case study of CS research on citizens’ assemblies and deliberative democracy. We will explore several questions, including: what are the potential impacts of a collective-decision-making system? And how can CS play a role in studying and shaping these impacts?
